  • How realistic is the goal, based on other constraints, such as financial aspects?


Relevant goals should align with your values and long-term aspirations. A goal not pertinent to your life may not provide the sense of purpose needed to work towards it.

  • Is this the right time?
  • Am I the right person to reach this goal?
  • Does this seem worthwhile?
  • Is it applicable in the current socio-economic environment?
  • Does this match other efforts/needs?


Time-bound goals provide a sense of urgency and accountability. Setting a deadline for achieving a plan helps to focus the mind and provides a clear timeline for progress. This part of the SMART goal criteria prevents everyday tasks from taking priority over your longer-term goals.

A time-bound goal will answer the questions below:

  • When?
  • What can I do six weeks from now?
  • What can I do six months from now?
  • What can I do today?
